# October 3, 2026 — Separate Sleep research area

**Run type:** Topic organization, inherited-baseline projection and focused historical OSA reference expansion; not a scheduled research run or new medical-news event.

Moved sleep out of Brain, mental health and senses into a dedicated Sleep research area. Replaced the single visible sleep card with Insomnia, Obstructive sleep apnea, Narcolepsy & excessive sleepiness, Circadian rhythm disorders and Restless legs syndrome. The 32 visible active topics are now arranged in six groups; the original `sleep` ID/path is retained as a history hub with `browseHidden: true` and `role: "hub"`.

## Preserved evidence and links

The original topics/12_sleep.md evidence, history and all prior note anchors remain intact. Added stable anchors to existing program passages for condition-specific links. Existing LATEST.md events/targets and MILESTONES.md dates remain unchanged. The new pages summarize inherited findings with source dates and limitations; source-backed narrative was not converted into a fresh complete check.

## Coverage by new topic

| Topic | Inherited coverage | Remaining gaps |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Insomnia | CBT-I/digital synthesis, selected medication labels/trials, pediatric daridorexant, Neuro-DORA and vornorexant | Comprehensive current registries, architecture literature and rumor sweep not refreshed by organization |
| Obstructive sleep apnea | AD109/SynAIRgy and focused historical diagnosis, PAP, appliances, positional, surgery/stimulation, tirzepatide and comorbid-insomnia sources | New-program discovery, complete registry refresh, full AD109 methods/supplements and rumor sweep remain incomplete; no whole-topic check claimed |
| Narcolepsy & excessive sleepiness | Oveporexton, alixorexton, Vibrance 3 and selected pitolisant | DEA scheduling/launch and complete NT2/IH formulary/registry/rumor sweep remain gaps |
| Circadian rhythm disorders | Delayed-phase active-strategy trial, tasimelteon indications and unresolved jet-lag procedure | Broad circadian baseline and verified procedural outcome pending |
| Restless legs syndrome | Nidra/RESTFUL and open-label extension | Broad drug/iron baseline, conference full presentations and unresolved observational leads pending |

## State and publication handoff

New topic state records are marked `baseline_complete: false` and `baseline_status: "inherited_baseline_focused_pending"`, with no successful-check timestamp. The hub's prior successful/focused research timestamps, every existing topic field, all historical events and the global last research run remain unchanged. The website may export all six routes while omitting the hub from browse counts and cards; publication is a separate validated step.

## Focused historical OSA reference sources

Checked October 3, 2026: AASM 2017 diagnosis/home-testing guidance; AASM 2019 PAP guideline; AASM/AADSM 2015 oral-appliance guideline; FDA 2023 Inspire expansion and December 20, 2024 Zepbound OSA approval; NIH treatment/CPAP references; randomized positional-therapy publication and 2019 coexisting-insomnia/PAP-adherence trial. All links and study limitations appear in [Obstructive sleep apnea](../topics/30_sleep_apnea.md). AD109's abstract and September 8 sponsor FDA-target statement were rechecked, without full methods/supplement appraisal or an assertion of current broad registry coverage. Historical results and approvals remain baseline; no new clinical-alert event was generated.
