Weight loss

VENTURE-Oral

12.2% reported weight loss · 1.3% loss with placebo · 13 weeks

120 mg once daily after 6-week escalation

Adults with obesity or overweight and comorbidity, without diabetes

LS means from MMRM in efficacy population (39 in 120 mg arm); release does not specify intercurrent-event handling. Investigational; phase 3 planning

Safety context

GI events mostly mild/moderate; 120 mg treatment discontinuation 38%, versus 18% placebo.

Limitations: Short study; exact estimand unspecified. Total N includes exploratory maintenance arm.

Weight loss

VENTURE

14.7% reported weight loss · 1.7% loss with placebo · 13 weeks

15 mg once weekly

Adults with obesity or overweight and comorbidity, without diabetes

mITT MMRM; assessments after treatment discontinuation plus 9 days set missing. Not treatment-policy. Investigational; phase 3 VANQUISH underway

Safety context

Mainly GI adverse events, declining with continued dosing; 8.5% discontinued treatment for adverse events overall.

Limitations: Short dose-finding trial; 174 in efficacy population. Headline 13.1% is placebo-adjusted, not absolute.

  1. VANQUISH phase 3 initiated

Viking initiated subcutaneous VANQUISH-1 and VANQUISH-2 in adults without and with type 2 diabetes, respectively.

    Source
  2. Oral phase 2 results

Viking reported results from the 13-week VENTURE-Oral trial of its tablet formulation.

    Source
  3. Both injectable phase 3 trials enrolled

Viking confirmed VANQUISH-1 and VANQUISH-2 were fully enrolled; oral phase 3 was still in preparation.

  4. Announcement

VK2735 reports results for less frequent maintenance dosing

Following 21 weeks of weekly induction, every-other-week and monthly injections preserved more of the initial weight loss over 12 weeks than withdrawal to placebo. Sponsor-only exploratory weight endpoint, small selected maintenance cohorts and short follow-up; retention is not percentage body-weight loss. Highest monthly arm excluded an outlier; including it changes that arm's retention from 85% to 99%. No confidence intervals or verified NCT match recovered.

  5. Announcement

Oral VK2735 registers the SUNRISE phase 3 trials

SUNRISE-1/2 register separate phase 3 oral trials without and with type 2 diabetes, each 560 planned participants. Both are not yet recruiting, with October 15/16 estimated starts. Registration is not first dosing; injectable VANQUISH trials remain separate.

  6. Announcement

Viking announces SUNRISE initiation; first treatment remains unverified

SUNRISE advances beyond registration, while both live protocols still list recruitment pending and November starts. A maintenance-dosing wording error is explicitly corrected. November 2026 estimated SUNRISE starts; primary completion July/October 2028. Separate maintenance Part 2 results forecast in 2027.
