Summary updated Topic baseline checked Review coverage

A summary update checks selected findings. It does not mean every program, safety question or access detail was reviewed again. Source and event dates remain attached to their findings below.

Selected current fields reviewed October 9, 2026. Stronger prior evidence and unchanged programs retain their original sources. This does not advance the full-topic successful-check date; the research log states remaining gaps.

Topic baseline checked coverage: Selective baseline; Direct ClinicalTrials.gov/API retrieval incomplete; primary paper establishes completed follow-up without asserting fresh registry fields. No specific new rumor or dated next pivotal readout was established in this selective baseline.

Facial volume restoration and contour

Recovered U.S. Belotero launch dates are sponsor forecasts: October 14 for Volume and December 1 for Intense. Earlier indication-specific approvals remain distinct from actual local inventory and comparative cosmetic benefit.

Where things stand

Established uses

FDA approved Belotero Volume (+) Lidocaine in May for specified deep midface volume/contour uses in adults 22 and older. That does not establish suitability for every facial site or post-weight-loss superiority.

In development

Recovered U.S. Belotero launch dates are sponsor forecasts: October 14 for Volume and December 1 for Intense. Earlier indication-specific approvals remain distinct from actual local inventory and comparative cosmetic benefit.

Key finding

A randomized 63-person facial-asymmetry study found better fat retention with cotton-pad filtration than two alternatives, although incomplete follow-up limited inference.

Main uncertainty

The topical pilot is uncontrolled, omitted its planned elasticity outcome and cannot distinguish regenerated fat from other sources of surface-volume change.

What comes next

October 14, 2026 Volume and December 1, 2026 Intense U.S. commercial availability, September 14 sponsor forecasts; verify actual launch.

Recovered U.S. filler launch forecasts separate availability from earlier approval

Source date: September 14, 2026; recovered during the October 9 check. This is older U.S. access context, not a newly issued October approval.

Merz forecasts commercial availability on October 14, 2026 for Belotero Volume (+) and December 1 for Belotero Intense (+). FDA approved Volume on May 19 for specified deep midface volume/contour implantation in adults 22+, already recorded here. FDA's original P250016 documents Intense approval on July 9, 2026, for submucosal/subcutaneous lip augmentation in adults over 21. Later manufacturing/assay supplements are not new anatomical indications.

Interpretation and safety: A launch forecast does not establish current local inventory, superior appearance or better benefit after weight loss. Marketing claims of regeneration and tissue mimicry do not prove new facial-fat growth; these are fillers. Local swelling, bruising, pain and nodules and uncommon intravascular blindness/stroke/necrosis risks remain separate from approval. Complete pivotal efficacy/safety tables and post-approval long-term outcomes were not newly appraised. Next: verify actual launch after each forecast date, preserving formulation, site and age restrictions.

Original Merz announcement; FDA Intense original approval; FDA Volume original approval.

Remaining gaps: Read the current assigned topic and canonical scope/state. Named original registry records refreshed; all pages of broad ClinicalTrials.gov discovery for September 5–October 9 were retrieved (107 records, with incidental matches excluded). This honors the seven-day overlap from the saved September 12 full successful check.; Europe PMC original-literature discovery again returned HTTP 503. Targeted primary publisher, sponsor and conference searches were performed, but the worldwide paper/regulator/procedure and original-audio census remains incomplete. Preserve last_successful_check_utc.; Macrofat NCT07805889 recruiting 400 and GLP1-Radiesse recruiting/no results retain status. HArmonyCa completion and new Facetem/Radiesse registrations already recorded October 6. No new comparative efficacy selected.; Full new-filler FDA/overseas inventory, precise launch inventory, rare delayed harms and post-weight-loss randomized efficacy remain incomplete. Existing HA-collagen reporting discrepancy not resolved.

Informal-source coverage: October9 https://www.reddit.com/r/PlasticSurgery/comments/1x1lv4i/fat_grafting_failed_renuva_vs_sculptra_for/ describes personal graft-survival experience and requests alternatives; not a formal trial or general incidence. Recent Secret Services podcast descriptions and saved Lufkin/Durairaj episode do not supply a verified new named-program claim; recordings/transcripts not appraised. Adipeau promotion remains distinct from its already saved uncontrolled pilot. No new rumor selected.

Facetem S adds a registered nasolabial-fold follow-up study

Source/event date: October 2, 2026 first registry posting.

DEFINE (NCT07855224) is a planned prospective, uncontrolled post-market follow-up of calcium-hydroxylapatite Facetem S for moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds. It plans 100 adults, with France/Spain sites, optional touch-up and follow-up to 12 months. The primary endpoint is at least one WSRS grade of improvement at week 12, or week 16 after touch-up. It is not yet recruiting; start January 2027, primary completion April 2028 and final January 2029 are estimates. No outcomes or harms are posted. Wrinkle-fold correction does not establish regained facial fat, durable tightening or superiority to other fillers. This registry does not establish a U.S. authorization for this exact product. Next: actual start and results; no publication date verified.

Original registry.

HArmonyCa midface comparison is completed, without posted results

Source date: October 5, 2026 registry posting. Reported actual completion: September 3, 2026.

NCT07032597 now lists a completed randomized, assessor-masked Phase 3 study in 252 adults at Chinese sites. HArmonyCa Lidocaine is compared with Restylane Perlane Lidocaine for midface-volume correction, with an optional touch-up. The primary effectiveness measure is at least one grade improvement on the Mid-Face Volume Deficit Scale at month six; adverse events are also primary outcomes. No results are posted, so noninferiority/superiority, duration and comparative harms remain unknown. Volume correction is distinct from laxity treatment or regenerated adipose tissue. The registry update supplies no new U.S. authorization or routine-availability conclusion. Next: comparative outcome and safety publication; timing unknown.

Original registry.

New RADIESSE study will follow Chinese adults for two years

Source/event date: October 5, 2026 first registry posting.

NCT07856797 plans an uncontrolled study of RADIESSE for moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds in 163 Chinese adults, with optional touch-up and up to 24-month follow-up. The primary endpoint is at least one WSRS grade improvement in both folds at month six after final treatment. It is not yet recruiting; start October 2026, primary completion August 2027 and final February 2029 are estimates. This is a new study of an existing filler, not a new U.S. approval or a demonstrated advantage in durability or safety. It will not directly compare fillers, establish restored facial fat or distinguish filling from tightening. Next: actual start, long-term safety/degradation findings and results publication; release date unknown.

Facial-fat-graft registry will measure one-year volume retention

Source date: 2026-09-08. Event date: 2026-09-08. Evidence: trial-registry record; new-to-watch study.

A newly registered cohort proposes ultrasound measurement of fat-graft persistence after facelift, alongside complications and patient satisfaction. NCT07805889: prospective observational registry, 400 planned adults, recruiting. First posted September 8 but lists an actual January 1, 2023 start. Primary outcome is 12-month ultrasound-derived graft volume relative to postoperative month 1; it is not the percentage of injected fat surviving. Primary completion estimated December 10, 2026; final completion March 1, 2027.

Limitations: Retrospective registration, no randomized comparator and combined facelift/fat-grafting treatment. The record still contains unfinished scoring/manual wording. It excludes planned major weight loss or expected weight change above 10%, limiting applicability during active weight loss.

Safety: Planned outcomes include nodules, oil cysts, infection, contour irregularities, fat necrosis, vascular events and revisions; no outcome or safety results posted.

U.S. status: Registration does not establish a new FDA authorization or superior surgical technique.

Next milestone: Verify registry consistency and posted results; December 2026/March 2027 are completion estimates, not promised publications.

Topical facial-volume pilot provides early imaging evidence with substantial limitations

Source date: 2026-09-14. Event date: 2026-09-14. Evidence: peer-reviewed human pilot plus separate laboratory experiments; full text appraised.

A small uncontrolled study found regional facial-volume changes after a topical botanical formulation; it does not establish regenerated facial fat. NCT04769193 / Adipeau-001: 35 participants, 31 women, mean age 46.5, six months of KPRE plus long-chain fatty-acid cream. Median gains at six months were 1.48 and 1.39 cm³ for left/right facial halves; losses in other regions were 0.72 and 0.52 cm³. This September publication reports a study conducted in 2021–2022.

Limitations: Open-label, single-site, no vehicle comparison; target enrollment was 75. The prespecified elasticity measurement was abandoned for methodological reasons. Surface imaging cannot isolate fat from hydration, weight or dermal changes, or prove adipogenesis. Adipeau partly funded the work; an author is an employee and patent holder.

Safety: No usable clinical adverse-event table was located in the full paper; do not infer a demonstrated safety advantage.

U.S. status: Cosmetic-formulation research, not new FDA approval for restoring facial fat.

Next milestone: Controlled replication and post-treatment durability undated.

Original full text; Original publication; Trial registry.

Review coverage and remaining gaps

Coverage: Searched new filler, fat-graft, biostimulator, volume-restoration and safety evidence. Retrieved and appraised full September 14 KPRE/Adipeau paper and original trial registry, keeping lab mechanisms separate from the uncontrolled 35-person human imaging study.

Remaining gaps: KPRE paper has no usable adverse-event table and no randomized replication; prespecified elasticity was not measured. September 18 self-protecting HA filler work is preclinical; not promoted to a new human therapy. No comprehensive fresh worldwide FDA/device-clearance or delayed-filler-complication inventory. Earlier HA-collagen RCT reporting discrepancy remains unresolved.

Informal-source coverage: Searched Reddit, podcasts and talks. Next update: Controlled topical/post-weight-loss comparisons and durability remain undated; the newly appraised publication reports an older 2021–2022 pilot.

Focused update — 2026-09-18

No additional finding was verified in this focused search. The incomplete coverage below does not establish that nothing changed across the full topic.

Coverage: Searched formal filler, biostimulator, fat-grafting, durability and safety developments. Appraised an abstract for a Sep 8 single-arm 150-person HA/PCL/PLA nasal-contour series; omitted as a minor uncontrolled, three-month study. No material newly verified comparative development or regulatory change was found in the focused review. This is a focused review, not a complete re-review of every program.

Remaining gaps: Full hybrid-filler paper was inaccessible; abstract is insufficient for longer-term safety or biocompatibility claims. HA-collagen RCT in a September issue was first published August 30, outside overlap; its adverse-event reporting discrepancies were not resolved and no efficacy headline was promoted. No comprehensive worldwide device-clearance inventory or long-term durability review was completed.

Informal-source coverage: Targeted Reddit and podcast/talk searches. Sep 14 personal filler-MRI account has no independently reviewed clinical record and does not establish a new treatment-development signal. Sep 8 Fill Me In episode description contains general claims without a new named trial; no transcript reviewed.

Next expected update: No reliable pivotal readout or U.S. decision date verified; watch comparative post-weight-loss trials, longer follow-up and indication-specific approvals.

Tracked programs and current evidence

Sculptra plus Restylane after medication-associated weight loss

Galderma's NCT06351358 now has a peer-reviewed report, published online November 17, 2025, in the May 2026 journal issue. It enrolled 41 people; 35 completed, predominantly women (39/41; mean age 58.9). Participants received poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra) plus either Restylane Lyft or Contour, with follow-up through nine months after the last Sculptra treatment. Appearance, hydration, radiance and satisfaction improved; no treatment-related adverse events were reported. This was an open-label, uncontrolled, industry-funded study, so it cannot isolate each product's contribution or establish superiority over another approach. Primary paper

The earlier sponsor summary reported 85.7% saying their face looked less gaunt at nine months. That is a participant rating, not measured replacement of 85.7% of lost facial fat. Its N=35 refers to the final cohort rather than all enrollment; the paper is the preferred account. Dated sponsor release

Next: no dated randomized comparison or longer-term results release was verified. Watch controlled comparisons, diverse populations, multi-year durability and evidence on the best timing relative to weight stabilization.

New filler and biostimulator formulations and indications

Follow hyaluronic-acid products, poly-L-lactic acid, calcium-hydroxylapatite and other formally studied materials, including combinations and retreatment strategies. FDA approvals are product-, anatomical-site- and indication-specific; approval of one filler does not establish approval of every use or a combination protocol. FDA's approval database links the clinical evidence and labeling for each new indication, and warns that an approved product may not currently be marketed. FDA approval reference

Galderma's first-half-2026 update reports new U.S. Restylane indications and overseas expansion, including Restylane Shaype chin augmentation in Thailand and Sculptra body indications in Australia. These are geographic development signals, not evidence that every formulation or site is approved in the U.S. Specific labels and comparative studies should be checked for each subsequent update. No dependable next filing or decision date was found. 2026 sponsor update

September 14, 2026 — An older U.S. filler approval added

Belotero Volume (+) Lidocaine — FDA approval on May 19, 2026. PMA P250020 authorizes deep subcutaneous and/or supraperiosteal injection to improve mid-face volume deficits or contour deficiencies in adults 22 and older. This is an older regulatory baseline addition, not September news. It does not establish superiority over other fillers, approval at every anatomical site, or a specific advantage after weight-loss medication. Actual retail/clinical launch availability was not independently checked; indication-specific labeling and the general filler risks above remain relevant.

Fat grafting and retention improvements

An older randomized Chinese trial, ChiCTR-IOR-14005599, assigned 63 facial-asymmetry patients to three fat-processing methods, assessing volume with 3-D scans through 12 months. Cotton-pad filtration retained more volume than centrifugation or sedimentation, but incomplete follow-up limited inference. This provides a useful model for assessing innovations: objective volume and durability, not only selected photographs. Facial asymmetry data do not automatically establish results after GLP-1-associated weight loss. Primary trial

Monitor prospective comparisons of preparation, injection, imaging and formally studied cellular adjuncts. Track revision procedures, unevenness and long-term changes alongside retention. No firm next major readout date was verified; claims that a processing method guarantees permanent graft survival require human follow-up.

Safety and interpretation

FDA identifies accidental intravascular injection as a serious filler risk, potentially causing tissue necrosis, stroke or blindness; other adverse effects can appear months or years later. Small uneventful studies cannot rule out uncommon harms. Later safety analyses, reversibility and removal outcomes belong in the watchlist alongside efficacy. FDA safety information

Expected updates

No reliable dated pivotal readout or U.S. decision is established for this category in the baseline. The next meaningful additions would be new indication-specific approvals, controlled post-weight-loss studies, longer-term filler/biostimulator follow-up or better fat-retention trials. An upcoming commercial launch is not itself new efficacy evidence.

What we’re watching
  • Which fillers, collagen-stimulating injectables and fat-transfer methods give durable, natural-looking correction of facial hollowing, including after weight loss?
  • How do visible appearance, patient satisfaction, objectively measured volume, retreatment and complications compare?
  • Watch new materials, delivery techniques, combinations and indications, with devices and procedures included alongside drugs.
  • Keep volume replacement separate from skin tightening and from proof of regeneration. Cross-link skin aging/laxity and GLP-1 therapies; do not duplicate the same study as separate discoveries.
